This is the face of someone that is about to let it go, or maybe that is Melissa’s fun face. Either way, keep up the hard work.

The other day I met up with some parents from a volleyball club that had some very good questions. One of the questions was about volume of training. The girls were training at school with volleyball and weights. After school, they were training volleyball for two hours and in a few months, they would be required to do a proper strength and conditioning program for an hour after volleyball training. Parents were concerned with their kids overtraining. Now I know this sounds like alot but I had an answer that I felt was a pretty good one. As I watched the girls go through their warm up and volleyball training I noticed some very evident things. With all this training they were doing, they still had terrible mechanics. Yes, alot of them were good volleyball players, but imagine if they had a proper strength and conditioning program. Imagine the possibilities of going from just being mediocore, to great. I guess this is what I’m trying to say. If you are doing alot of training and you are still not doing exercises correctly, then doing an extra strength and conditioning program that teaches you to do those exercises properly is not considered overtraining. THEN

Today I met a few guys that seemed like they were in pretty good shape. One guy was what you would consider to be Built, Cut up, or whatever other sterotype you would like to place upon him. One of his concerns was that he can’t get any better than what he is right now. Now let me remind you that this kid is about 22 years old. He said that he has hit his peak. I looked at him as if he was joking, but he was not. I do not know why people insist that they have peaked. I rather them say that they are in a rut. When you talk about peaking, you are talking about mastery. Now lets look at mastery. How long does it take to master something. I don’t have an answer. I have been alive for 30 years and still have not mastered a damn thing. I told them about this guy I once knew. He was a 96 year old WuShu student. He had been practicing chinese wushu since the age of six. Notice that this guy had been doing wushu for 90 years and he was still a student. So at the ripe age of 22 this guy had hit his peak. Please excuse me when I call bullshit on this one because there is always room to grow.
